While he was wedging down some coal, a large stone fell upon him from a smooth slip in the roof. He was badly crushed and died the next day. The stone was liberated by the wedging down of the coal, and fell from between the nearest bar and the coal face. The bar was about two feet from the face, and the slip would not be visible before the stone fell.
