- Details of Event
- Died June 17th. Deceased with another shaftman was engaged in a compartment 7 feet by 6 feet of a rectangular shaft building up a column of pump pipes. The pipes were lowered in sets of three by the crab engine. The work of making the joint was performed from two planks 7 inches wide fixed across the shaft on each side of the completed column. A spur consisting of a sleeper placed on edge against the shaft side and between the two planks in an inclined position with the horizontal had been placed against the column to keep it in position and as deceased stepped from one plank to the other he may have tripped over it. He fell down the shaft with the spur and landed on a plank placed diagonally across the shaft 36 feet below.
