- Details of Event
- 23 April 1927: Blantyre – Fatal Accident in a Colliery – A somewhat peculiar accident occurred about midnight last Saturday in the Priory Colliery which resulted in the death of a workman named James Jackson, about 50 years of age, who resided at 2 Ulva Place, Low Blantyre. He had been at work on the haulage road of No.3 Pit, and from enquiries made by the police from workmen who were close at the time of the accident, the general opinion is that Jackson tramped on or tripped over a haulage rope and fell heavily on his head. He was immediately conveyed to the surface but he died shortly after he arrived at the pithead, never having regained consciousness. Deceased leaves a widow and young family.
