- Details of Event
- A nearly vertical vein of ore 18 inches wide in slate rock was being worked, and in order to make a roadway 18 inches of the country rock was removed on the left or hanging cheek in which a hole had been drilled and was charged and nearly stemmed when a mass of stone which it was intended to shoot down between the drill and the hanging cheek, measuring 5 feet by 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet, fell without any warning from a smooth parting at the top and a visible parting at the side and caught deceased. The place had been visited by an official during the shift and he thought it was safe.
