He was run over by several full trams of a journey, at a double parting, on its way to the shaft on the Main West level. How it occurred is not known. He superintended the traffic through out the colliery and knew this level well. The rider was at the tail of the journey at the time and only became aware that deceased was on the road upon the journey stopping unexpectedly and upon examining to see what the stoppage was caused by finding him under the two first trams.
