17 January 1938: Edinburgh Miner's Death - An Edinburgh pitworker, George Bathgate (57), 11 Brown Street, died in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary yesterday as a result of injuries he had received while at work in the Moat Pit, Roslin, on Saturday. Apparently he was crushed by a cage at the colliery, his spine being fractured. [Scotsman 18 January 1938]
