- Deceased had been sent by his foreman from the locomotive shed to the colliery yard on an errand and passed under the hempstead on his was although he had been frequently cautioned to go round the end of it. A chaldron wagon loaded with small coal was standing chocked and just as he passed before it a similar wagon also loaded came against it lowered by a lad in the usual way and he was severely crushed in the bowels. He was taken to Newcastle Infirmary, and died the same day.
