- Deceased was driving a disc coal-cutting machine, worked by compressed air, when a fall of roof occurred, displacing 2 props and bars, and half burying the machine and deceased, who was killed instantly. The timber bars were set 4 feet 6 inches apart, according to the regulatory distance. The face had been standing for 3 days, and when the machine undercut the coal it was weakened the support of the bars that was stamped into the coal, and permitted the roof stone to fall. The bars were being regularly supported by props against the coal face as the machine passed.
