- Details of Event
- This accident occurred in a broken lift in the Busty seam. The seam is dipping about 18 inches per yard. The lifts 12 feet wide are taken up the full rise. In this case the face was about 10 yards above the level. The two men working at the face when the roof suddenly began to weight and both rushed to get clear. One got clear, the other slipped and fell backwards and was caught by falling stone. The deputy had been in the place three quarters of an hour before and he said the place was quiet then. The place was timbered up to the face with two rows of pairs of gears each pair being within a yard of the next. Two parallel joints running up the place and a slip running across were visible after the fall.
