Hurst was working at the Longwall face, near to where a fall of roof had previously occurred, when a sudden weighting of the rock roof took place, and he apparently rushed towards the roadway, and was caught by the edge of a fall which displaced four bars and two props. He died from the effects of the injuries received 16th April, 1913.
