A fall of roof had occurred during the week-end on a roadway, and deceased and his mate were sent to put up timber and make the place safe. The deputy examined the place before the men started work, but left no definite instructions as to how they were to proceed. Deceased was about to examine some overhanging roof, when it fell and fatally injured him. The deputy’s examination was improperly done as he failed to get up on to the first fall to see if the overhanging part had drawn away from the parting above.
