- 2 February 1937: Killed By A Fall of Shale - A bad fall of shale in Duddingston (No.1) mine, near Winchburgh, was responsible for the death yesterday of James Hunter (47), of Sanquhart Terrace, Hopetoun Road, South Queensferry. Hunter was removed by ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary suffering from multiple injuries, and died a few hours later. [Scotsman 3 February 1937]
