- Details of Event
- Fall of roof, when working at the face of the rippings in his working place, about 6 yards back from the face of the Yard Coal in the West District. The getting down of the 18 ins of stone or clod between the Yard Coal and Big Vein not proving sufficient height on the roads the bottom coal of the Big Vein is ripped for the purpose. Having cut this coal on one side and failed to get it down by wedging he put a prop under it to allow of the haulier taking out a full train from the face and afterwards, when he was returning under it to resume work the clod fell and killed him. Undoubtedly the wedging had loosened it.
