21 June 1939: Pit Fatality - Peter Hunt (39), coal stripper, 24a Duff Crescent, Raploch, Stirling, was killed yesterday while working in the Wallsend conveyer run section in No.2 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Millhall. A large stone fell from the roof and pinned him down. When extricated, Hunt was found to be dead. Hunt, who served throughout the Great War, was in the Territorial Army, being a corporal in the Stirling Signals Company. [Scotsman 22 June 1939]
