- Details of Event
- He was working for Messrs. Graham Morton & Co. Ltd., engineers of Leeds, who had erected two drop cages on the surface; the frames of these cages had become buckled and deceased and others were stripping them for the purpose of straightening and strengthening them. The rivets were cut and bolts were put into the hole to keep the structure together. He was removing the bolts in order to lower one of the channel irons and when he did so the channel iron sprung and hit him on the chest, and he fell from the scaffolding to the ground a distance of 15 feet, and his spine was dislocated. He was removed to the Hospital at Barnsley, where he died 2 days afterwards.
