Deceased was employed at a jig 20 yards in length, dipping 1 in 5 on which the tubs were run in sets of two. The output being very small, he acted both as brakesman and hanger-on. He had attached a post to the rear of an empty set, but unfortunately omitted to hook the tubs on to the chain. On setting away the full tubs the empty chain came up with great velocity and swung round the jig post, lashing him to it and causing injuries which resulted fatally on the following day.
