- Details of Event
- Deceased and his mate were enlarging a heading when a piece of coal, 4 feet by 51 inches by 30 inches thick, fell from the side, and injured him so severely that he died in 5 hours. He had tried to get the coal down some little time previously, but had failed. He then went and holed under the coal some feet away for a short time, and, when returning to where his mate was at work, the coal fell on him. He should have kept on working at the coal until he got it down. The fireman was in the place 15 minutes before the accident. Two feet nine seam.
