- Details of Event
- Deceased was driving an empty tub inbye along a road in the Heathen Coal. When about 20 yards from the working face, the tub was derailed, knocked out a prop, and let down a bar and a quantity of roof. Two large lumps fell upon his shoulders and back, and he was covered with small debris. He was dead when extricated and was found to have been doubled over and suffocated. For what did not appear to me to be any sufficient reason, the place had been cleaned up and retimbered before I saw it on the following day, but the fireman stated that the props had been 5 or 6ins. clear of the tub.
