After having fired a springing shot in a hole 16ft. deep, deceased and his son recharged the hole with 5lbs. of gelignite, poured water and small rubbish down, and lit the fuse. Before the deceased got clear, the charge exploded and killed him on the spot. It is very probable that some of the gelignite was frozen, as it was admitted that 10 cartridges bad been discarded as unfit for use. There was no warming pan on the ground.
