This lad on getting home from the pit complained that he had hurt his left shoulder, when winching the rope, owing to the winch handle having flown back and struck him on the shoulder. He did not think he had had the catch on right. A doctor who was called in next day found a severe bruise on the arm near the shoulder. An abscess, formed at the place, and later pneumonia set in, from which the lad died on May 18th.
