He and his mate were taking out a stook when a piece of ironstone fell from near the top of the seam (which at this point was 15 feet thick) and killed him. There is more than the average amount of danger when the last lift or stock, of a pillar is being taken out, and it is only by very careful examination by the deputies and by the miners, and constant alertness, that accidents of this character can, if at all, be avoided.
