He was a contractor for taking away and emptying dirt and ashes from the boilers, and had to lower the tubs containing the ashes some 15 yards down an incline dipping 1 in 7, and then shunt and take them up the main incline by means of an endless rope. He evidently had been lowering a full tub near the bottom of the incline and had omitted to put in a locker in the tub he had left, and this tub crept away and ran into and totally crushed him against the frame of a haulage pulley.
