- Details of Event
- Deceased was cleaning the road on "eight hours dip," and stood on one side to allow a journey of two trams of coal to pass him. As soon as they had passed up he stepped into the road and was struck by the trains running back. After they had been drawn up 4 to 6 yds. above deceased, the block, holding the reversing lever in position, jumped or was jerked up the engine reversed and the trams ran back until they were tumbled by the bar hook. The engineman said that the rope coiled up and fell back and that the jerk so produced caused the block to jump up out of the notch in the rack.
