- Details of Event
- Fall of roof on road, cliff, 13ft by 10ft by 45ins. thick. Deceased and his assistant were sent by the fireman to take out a pair of timbers that were getting too low the assistant said that deceased examined the roof before commencing to take out the timber and found that it sounded safe. He then cut the arm out with a hatchet, and directly it was done a heavy fall took place and killed him. Prop-drawing appliances are provided, but the men do not make as much use of them as they should. Deceased evidently deceived by the sound, as it was such a thick stone. The fireman examined the place at 2p.m, and considered that there was no danger in taking out the old timbers. No.3 seam.
