- Details of Event
- After firing eight shots of Ammonite No.1 in a tunnel, he was seized with a violent fit of coughing and spitting, and was sick. The tunnel was well ventilated, and the shotfirer who fired the remaining four shots felt no ill-effects. The post-mortem evidence showed great signs of irritation of the lungs, which were congested, and the heart was diseased. The suddenness of the attack and speedy death three days subsequently pointed to a connection between the inhalation of noxious fumes and the man's death. There was no sign of poisoning by carbon monoxide or other gas.
