When taking a tram of timber out of the middle deck of the cage, the engineman started the cage away and he was caught and killed. It was discovered afterwards that 15 men who were waiting at the shaft bottom to ascend the shaft, on hearing a signal from the surface that men were coming down with the other cage made a rush to get to the cage, and in doing so one them accidentally caught the electric signal and gave the signal to the winding engineman who therefore, moved the cages.
