Details of Event
Deceased had no fixed abode. After leaving a public house about 9pm. on a Sunday night he was decapitated on the Seaton Burn Coal Co's private railway by a locomotive (going tender first) and workmen's carriages passing over him. The turnpike road crosses the railway at a level crossing near the point and a watchman is stationed there on week days but not on Sundays. The railway is a very old one and is much used by pedestrians.
