- Details of Event
- His duty was to drive along a level between to jigs in the Little Row seam but had no occasion to cross the bottom of the jigs in the course of his work. It was the duty of the taker off at the outbye jig to push the tubs required by the deceased across the jig bottom At the time of the accident the taker-off at the jig in question had attached an empty tub to the jig rope and given the signal to the jigger and had gone back a few yards into his shunt to fetch another tub when a full tub was turned into the jig at the top landing, without having been attached to the rope, and keeping to the rails crashed into the empty tub standing at the bottom Deceased was found lying on the plates, having evidently been struck by flying lumps of coal which were found near him, and had received injuries from which he died about three hours later. The Jury returned a verdict of accidental death due to injuries caused by a runaway tub which, inadvertently, had not been attached to the rope.
