Died 23rd May. On the 21st May deceased was performing his ordinary duties in the pit and in addition had assisted to put a loaded tub that had become derailed back on the rails on an endless rope haulage road. Some time after he became ill with a severe pain in the stomach and had to be helped outbye. He was taken to South Shields Infirmary and died there. A post mortem examination revealed an ulcer of old standing in his stomach which had burst.
