Deceased was working in a stall in the bottom section of the Thick Coal and was standing on loose dirt upon which the trees were set on foot lids trimming up the face of the rib when a piece of stone coal fell and knocked him down, fracturing and dislocating his spine, from which injuries he died next day. The piece which fell was considered hard and safe, and a shot hole had been drilled in it some time before the accident, but the hole had not been charged. A tree was put up to this coal, but it was reeled out by the fall.
