- Details of Event
- Deceased was a pony putter in High Main seam. He had taken a full tub so far outbye and appears to have loosened his pony off to go back for another tub when a fall of roof took place possibly caused by the pony knocking a prop from under a running balk which supported several planks. The roof is soft blue metal and the size of the fall was about 6 feet square and 2 feet thick and deceased was completely buried some hewers passing over the fall on their way outbye not being aware he was under it. The full tub was found a few feet outbye clear of the fall and the pony had gone to the shaft. The props under the balk were stated to have been set on sole trees as the bottom is soft. Several officials had passed the place during the shift. The Local Inspector reported, ‘we find that the place has been sufficiently timbered where the fall has taken place and we urge that putters use caution when siding their tubs here. We find this a pure accident.'
