24 April 1938: Roland Holmes (32), an engineer, who resided at 121 Main Street, Lumphinnans, lost his life in an accident which took place yesterday, in the Minto Colliery, Lochgelly, belonging to the Lochgelly Iron and Coal Co. Three other men working in the same section had narrow escapes. Holmes was engaged with his colleagues transporting machinery when he was caught by a heavy fall of stone. He is survived by his wife, and one child. [Scotsman 25 April 1938]
