Was holding up the gate to the cage for men to enter, when the engineman raised the cage. Hodgkinson was crushed by the cage against the frame; he might have let go, hut was anxious to keep back a man just entering the cage. The engineman said he did not know men were about to ride, although the signals were given. A fatal arrangement made between engineman and hooker-on, outside the code of signals, caused the fatality.
