Deceased and another pikeman were working in a still about 10ft. wide and after filling out part of the coal which bad been dropped in the previous shift, were preparing to put up a prop to support the roof coal when they beard weighting. They stood quiet a short time and then deceased’s mate shouted ‘bolt’ and jumped clear. Deceased however did not get clear, was knocked down by the coal, and received fractured skull from which he died on the same day.
