Suffocated by firedamp. Was found at face of a rise place, proving an up-throw fault, his lamp hung in button-hole of his vest, believed that he had found the gas, lost his light, hooked lamp in button-hole of vest and was trying to get round the end of the brattice to get out, when the gas overpowered him. The gas was accumulated for 3 yards from roof to floor.
