- Died 13th April. 1904. Deceased and another deputy were drawing timber in the goaf a few feet back from the face of longwall workings in the Yard seam when a stone 4 feet by 3 feet and 7 inches thick suddenly fell upon him and broke his back. They were only using the axe and had not with them an appliance ready for use suitable for drawing timber without undue risk as required by one of the new Timbering Special Rules which were then in force. Deceased was never able to move again and eventually died from acute inflammation the kidneys the result of the accident. An inquest was held.
