- Details of Event
- Was in charge of a train of 20 waggons in which 36 men were riding up the engine plane. For 20 years he had done this work, always riding inside the first waggon. On this occasion he was sitting on the side of the 16th waggon. At a low place with only 9 inches clearance from the top of the waggon he was crushed down on to the waggon, his back being broken. A fireman rode inside the tub, and permitted deceased to ride in this foolish manner.
