His driving road was practically level but it was necessary to stop his set at a point short of the landing. His pony had become so accustomed to the stopping place that it stopped there of its own accord. It is thought, as no one saw the accident, that the pony stopped suddenly, and jerked the first two tubs of the set of eight off the way, and so caused his head to be crushed between the first tub and a prop which was fifteen inches from the way.
