- Details of Event
- He was in the act of changing the driving rope on a cone drum of a mechanical stoker from a small to a larger diameter, when he got his hand caught between the rope and the drum. His wrist was caught against a bracket carrying the cone shaft, and his hand almost torn off. He died from shock in Durham County Hospital on the same day. He should have stopped the engine used for driving the gearing before interfering with the rope.
