- Details of Event
- Died January 10. Deceased was working off a narrow strip of coal lying next a small hitch in longwall workings in the East Flat of the South west district in the B. Pit, Maudlin seam, and while engaged at the loose end a blue metal stone, about 8 feet square and 10 inches thick fell on him from the roof next to the face. The stone in its fall canted out a pair of gears set parallel to the direction in which the place was advancing besides knocking out a prop under a pair of gears set across the tub road. The deputy was in the place at the time of the accident 1.30am and had in addition examined it before work was started when he set the pair of gears that were canted out. There was a good supply of timber. The Local Inspectors reported ‘We find in our opinion that it was a pure accident.’
