He along with others were clearing a fall on the engine plane. When finishing they were directed to set some new bars some 10 yards higher up the plane. Before doing so they set middle props under the roof which were after withdrawn shortly afterwards when a large fall took place and killed him. The middle props had not been disturbed the old supports at the bars and caused the stone to fall.
