Deceased was on the cage, with six other workmen, and while being raised he took ill and falling to the bottom of the cage was crushed. At a part of the shaft about 30 fathoms up he was forced into a 'ring," and when the cage passed he fell to the bottom. The bottomer had permitted the cage to be raised without fixing on the gates.
