He was making a passageway behind the side wall of a motor house, and to do this he had to get side coal and the shale above it off, and set timber every 3 ft. When preparing for a prop and bar, about 5cwts of shale fell and crushed him against the side wall, so seriously injuring him that he died two days afterwards.
