- Details of Event
- Deceased’s duty was to stand on a staging 5 feet above the ground level and regulate the flow of water into a coal washer which had recently been erected. The staging and fencing were both incomplete. He thoughtlessly stepped backwards and one leg fell through an opening and he fell backwards on to one of the angle iron guards of a slack elevator which ruptured his right kidney. He died in hospital February 14th. The accident emphasises the danger of starting such machinery before all staging and fencing has been completed.
