- Deceased and another man were emptying three tubs of stone on a main and tail haulage plane to be used for repairing a side wall. An offset lad came to warn them that the tail rope, which ran between the metals, was going to be run in order that the haulage set which was further outbye could be lowered down to the shaft. Whilst his marrow was packing the stone, deceased stood at the outbye end of two of the tubs, one of which was full. The road dipping slightly outbye, the tubs were secured by a drag in each one. It is supposed a shackle of the tail rope caught the axle of the inbye tub caught the two to start running, and deceased was knocked down and run over. He was very severely crushed; and died the same day.
