Details of Event
Deceased and two fitters were walking up the south level on opposite sides of the road. As a journey was approaching the fitters got into the manhole. Deceased for some reason tried to cross the road to join them but was knocked down, run over by the journey and killed. He knew the road well and could see and hear well. The level was 14ft. wide, and there was 4.5 feet between the rail and the left side. Where he attempted to cross to the right side of the level there was a manhole into which he ought to have got.
