- Details of Event
- Deceased was driving a road 12 feet wide through a 20-yard pillar in the Red Shagg ironstone. The stone, besides being full of joints, was much crushed on the deep side, where a rib 4 yards thick was being left. A dressing 5 feet 9 inches in length had been holed and one sprag set at one end of the overhanging stone. While deceased was doing something at the other end of the dressing, probably completing the holing to a joint at the back it came off, reeling the one sprag and falling partly on him. The maximum distance for sprags in this seam is 4ft. 6 in. A. second sprag might have prevented the accident.
