- Details of Event
- While engage ramming down four cartridges of gelignite with a stick (no primer having been inserted) it exploded and injured him so severely that he died on the 20th of April. The only apparent explanation of the occurrence seems that some of the gelignite must have been frozen, and, that the ramming of it in the bottom of the hole caused it to explode. The weather was cold and certainly at times well under 40 degrees F.
