- Details of Event
- Barker was loading at a cutting which was being taken along the face in a long-wall drift in the Cockshead past a cog left against a fall in a waste. In a break running parallel and close to the cutting was a slab of bass standing vertically and supported in the break by short pieces of wood fixed on lids crossing the break. The removal of the coal probably caused a settling of the front and the slab slipped down, reeled a post, and dropping on the floor rolled over and struck deceased about the hips. He was removed to the Infirmary suffering from a fracture of the pelvis. He died from the injury on June 15th.
