- Details of Event
- It was deceased’s duty to accompany journeys of loads and empties attached to an endless under-rope by means of Smallman clips and travelling at about 2.5 miles per hour. He started to go inbye with four empties three of which reached the first stopping place unaccompanied but off the rails. He was found lying across the empty tub load dead with the rope running across his neck and the fourth load scotched against his body. It is surmised that deceased was either walking in front or riding on the first tub and fell in front of the journey. Three tubs then rode over his body, and the rope was lifted over his head, so that its pressure and motion were sufficient to sever the arteries of the neck. The road at the spot was both wide and lofty.
